Boston/Freedom Trail

After parting with Lowell and Elyse in Plimoth, we took our water-logged trailer to a KOA outside of Boston. We set up our trailer to find our stuff quite damp! Luckily it was not raining so we opened up the trailer and spread everything out hoping it would dry. The boys sleeping bags were pretty wet, so we put them in the dryer, but the rest of our stuff was not too bad.

The next morning we took a train into Boston for the day. When we got into town, we thought we would head first for the harbor and check out the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum. When we got to the harbor, the harbor was bare! The whole thing is being renovated. The ships have even been completely removed from the harbor!! Does this mean we will have to go back one day?! I think so! We took our disappointment in stride and headed toward the Commons. On the way we found a Starbucks so we all had to have a special something to get over such trauma. Next we passed a Radio Shack, so we stopped there to replace a set of headphones for the boys. The city was pretty cool. Kinda old and full of interesting buildings. We did finally get to out the Boston Commons area. What a nice park. We wandered around there for a while and sampled a pretzel from a street vendor. We saw the swan boats, but my men folk were all too manly to want to go for a ride on one! Such party poopers! Speaking of party poopers, Derek was not feeling so well... bad headache, a bit sick to his stomach, and he was tired of history... have I mentioned that before?! We were off to follow Boston's Freedom Trail and learn all about all the important historical events that happened in Boston, but he was NOT so much a willing participant. There was a tour guide all dressed up in costume that we could have gone with, but Derek...not so much interested. We ended up with me buying a very short, abbreviated guide and following the markers for the trail ourselves. It was a lovely day, and I was thrilled to be there. We found one of the old cemeteries. Marcus and Colin thought it was so cool, they were dieing to get in! Note their tongues are out and everything?! By this time, it was getting late and Derek was very much ready to go back to camp. Colin was really wanting to go to the Children's Museum. We had heard such great stuff about it. It was not cheap, it was not staying open much later and Derek was done, so we climbed aboard our train and headed back to camp.
The next morning Colin tried his best to pedal around camp on a banana bike. He found they are much more work than they look. He was tuckered out before his time was up. He was not so tuckered that he couldn't enjoy a little jumping on the jump pillow though! That looked like fun! While he was doing that, the rest of us were taking down camp. It was time to get on the road again!
